Meet Elsa - our beautiful CH princess who is looking for a safe place to land that'll adore her quirks and accept her in all of her classic beauty. Elsa has Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which is a condition where the cerebellum, a part of the brain responsible for coordination, balance, and muscle control, is smaller than normal or underdeveloped. She is quite wobbly and needs support to move around in the world. A Good Samaritan found Elsa and her sister Olaf in a parking lot in Paterson and contacted rescue for assistance.
Elsa use the litter box regularly, and although she struggles a bit to get in, but she hasn’t had any accidents! She enters and exits the litter box independently. Elsa currently eats Royal Canin Mother/Baby Wet food, as she is still in the process of becoming the big girl that she is. Elsa loves to play with Jingle bell balls, and she also enjoys crawling through the crinkle tunnels in her foster placement. For Elsa, she also plays with her exercises to increase her strength and agility. Her amazing foster mom, our rescue nurse/bottle feeder, is using counter-pressure on her back paws to help strengthen them. Elsa also benefits from some stretching exercises over the tunnel or rolled up blankets. Her foster helps her efforts to walk by providing support on her sides to prevent her from falling over.
Little Elsa is a bit shy with new people, but warms up quickly when given the chance. She loves to snuggle, and will sit quietly on your lap for hours. She receives physical therapy from her foster, which will help her gain more muscle strength. She is very cooperative and works hard to master little tasks. What a little fighter!
On a lazy Sunday afternoon, you will find Elsa snuggling on a warm lap. She is in need of a home that can accommodate her needs and will support her in the fight to gain some more balance and independence. She is not yet spayed, but is currently up-to-date on vaccinations.
Additional information from her foster: Elsa has cerebellar hypoplasia. She has issues with balance and muscle weakness. She needs support to walk right now, but is gaining more independence every day. She requires no medication or veterinary procedures- just a few small adaptive devices. Her litterbox will need to have a low entry side- meaning only a small edge to get over. The other sides need to be high so she can lean. A raised food and water bowl so she doesn’t have to bend over to eat and drink. I will provide both items prior to adoption. I bathe her regularly and she seems to enjoy it- or just tolerates it very well. I suggest crating her in a well padded crate at night for safety so she doesn’t fall. Olaf has very mild CH. She requires no medical care for it. She occasionally has a head tremor and walks a bit clumsy at times. She is able to play jump eat and go in and out of her litter box independently. She sleeps draped over her sister whose condition is a little bit more pronounced.
