Rookie was rescued from a home with domestic violence, and had to be given up when they split. We can tell he's seen a lot, and he is still somewhat afraid of men, and can growl. With exposure, patience and kind men, he will realize there are good ones out there, and time and love will heal him.
He is generally a happy boy and loves his walks, being outside, and looking at the birds. He's great on a leash, doesn't pull much at all, and you don't have to ask twice when it's time to go out! Rookie is used to his crate and is fine, and is also completely housebroken. He know Sit and Outside commands, and is learning more every day. He really enjoys his ball and his stuffed dinosaur, and loves foster's teenage daughter, but hasn't been tested with young ones yet, or boys. His favorite place is next to you watching tv on the sofa. He loves to cuddle and hang out with foster mom. He's still shy though, and hides when company comes.
Rookie seems indifferent to their cat, but growls at their chihuahua. (His foster was quick to point out, however, that her chi is a grump who hates everyone, so this should be tested on a case by case basis ;)). Rookie is great in the car, and good with other people in the mall and at PetSmart, and was excellent with the groomer. He has some funny quirks too - for example, if you offer him a treat, he will take it, then run upstairs and hide it under the bed. And the best part is, he doesn't even eat them! He's a riot!
We are unsure of his exact breed, but some paperwork we have says "Griffon", and are assuming at 25 lbs he is a mix of Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen and who knows.... He will do well wherever he goes, as long as the main ingredients are patience and kindness. An active home with older kids would be great, but he fits in most everywhere.
