I've found my furever family!

Hi! My Name Is Pedro

We're happy to tell you that Pedro has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Pedro was one of our original Aruba rescues - he was discovered in a hoarding situation where 25 chihuahuas were being kept in the home. He and his housemate Bimini were rescued by an island shelter, and they worked with us to bring them here to the US where they will have a better chance at finding a forever home.  Both Pedro and Bimini are together in the same foster home now, and can be adopted individually or together.

Coincidently, I was the person who took Pedro on the plane ride home with me - he was amazing!  Calm and docile, he took the 4 hour ride like a total champ, never made a sound and slept most of the way home.  Surrounded by the many dogs in his household, Pedro learned how to survive and now is having to break some old habits.  He's a bit cautious with other dogs, but after a warming up period, he is fine with some dogs.  Pedro has NO aggression at all, whether it's toys, food or another dog, and foster says she has taken things directly out of his mouth with no reaction.   We do recommend older kids though (teens or older) - very young kids can be loud and overwhelming, and he is not that confident just yet.  Pedro LOVES to play with his buddy Bimini, and has tried to interact with fosters' rotti mix, but then gets scared and runs away ;).  More than anything, he loves to run around outside in the yard, and playing with chew toys and bones.  Foster says he is so stinking cute and silly when he plays - he bounces toys around and shakes them in his mouth like a tough guy.  He also loves his bed next to the heater (remember, he's a Caribbean boy!) and plops there after a tough session of playing and running. He's a good eater, but also tries to eat wires, so they should be moved while he is learning not to - like Pedro himself, it's a work in progress! He definitely wins the Drama King Award for Expert Food Begging - foster and family get hysterical when he tries for treats - she swears he makes his eyes water like he's crying!

In evenings when mom comes home, the dogs are let out of their room and he zooms around - lots of energy!  At night he will come up on the couch with fosters, and after a while may come into your lap.  You can put in your lap, but he won't stay, and if you try to pet him, he'll get down.  But he still stays near and wants to be around you, and the amount of time he sits with you is getting longer and longer.  Foster sees progress every day - he is relaxing and starting to realize he can trust and he is safe.

Pedro's next home should be someone familiar with chi's or small breed dogs, and can spend time with him so he can grow and learn how to be a dog in a safe environment.  Pedro is good with Bimini, but should be tested with other dogs.  He's a terrific dog for a single man or woman, or a couple in a quiet home with no small kids.
