I've found my furever family!

Hi! My Name Is Niko

We're happy to tell you that Niko has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

This little love muffin ended up in a Newark shelter on a 7 day hold and no one came.... I can't imagine how frightening that must have been. So we scooped him up and he is SO happy in foster care now. Whew!!

Niko is a super affectionate little cuddler whose idea of the perfect day would be to sit on or near his foster mom and just get belly rubs. His favorite thing is to be in someone's arms. He is a total people-dog - doesn't care about toys, just people! If someone bends down he will roll over for some belly rubs. Total lap dog. When foster comes home, he is sitting at the front door, wagging his little tail....Niko follows his foster around in the house - he's very curious and alert and likes to see everything going on in the house. He loves his walks and is fine with a leash but usually wants to walk fast so break out your sneakers.

Niko does not need to be crated, he's completely housebroken and is not destructive of property when alone. He does NOT cry or react when foster leaves the house - foster feels this is partially because she makes it a non-event, making no announcements or goodbyes. He knows some commands, like Sit and Come. Foster walks him 4x a day, but if he needs to go out in between he does circles to tell you. Pretty cute, huh? He's a good eater, and has no food aggression, or aggression of any kind. He LOVES meeting new people and approaches them for pets and cuddles, and rolls over submissively. He's generally a very quiet boy - foster lives in an apartment and only makes small noises when he hears people outside. He sleeps well in his bed at night.

Niko is a healthy boy and has no issues. He does make a little honking noise when he gets excited - foster had never had a Yorkie before and asked the vet who said they have small tracheas and it's pretty common, nothing of concern. Niko is affectionate, calm and patient, and will be a great addition to a calm and quiet household. He'll be great for a lone person, a quiet couple or a senior who wants someone to spoil and to be their dog's total focus.
