I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Midnight

I'm Available

Midnight was rescued from a homeless man in NYC, found to be emaciated and with a broken leg. A good Samaritan paid $20 for him and he was brought into our rescue for recovery and foster. We are waiting to see if there is some improvement in the leg before deciding how to proceed - we will keep you updated!

Midnight is crate trained for overnights, but he does not love being in it if he hears you around. He sleeps overnight in his crate as long as there is no other activity going on in the home. He will bark if he hears you out and about - so in the morning time he loves to come out and go outside to go potty and stretch his muscles. Apartment life would not be ideal for Mr. Midnight! On leash, Midnight still needs some training. He pulls on the leash and is very rambunctious and eager to smell all the smells and experience the world. His curious personality shines through on walks, but he will need to learn some commands to prevent pulling. For the most part, he is housebroken, as long as he let out on a regular schedule. He would benefit from some cue training to learn how to alert his adopters to his need to go out.

Midnight currently eats three times daily because he was so emaciated when he came into rescue that we needed to bulk him up. He will eventually be able to move to a more typical twice daily feeding - all dry kibble. He isn't very interested in toys. They are offered to him but he isn't really that interested. He prefers a canine playmate, and would benefit from a playmate in another younger pup who is active and engages with him in some rough and tumble play.

When interacting with people, Midnight needs to take his time to warm up to new friends in the home. He has bonded quickly to his foster mom, tiny humans, and canine friend. He aims to "guard" or protect his people. He is very protective and demonstrates some anxiety when things appear amiss as new people enter the family space. There are some trust issues with outsiders, so a potential adopter needs to be cognizant of doing slow introductions or providing a comfortable space for him to be in so that he feels that every is safe. He would do best in a home where there is not a lot of comings and goings - calm is key for him to feel that he and his people are a-okay.

When it comes to hanging around at home, Midnight needs more time and some opportunities to relax a bit more. He loves to be involved in the group with a highly playful interaction - but until he settles - relaxation is hard for him. He is working on learning to settle when present with the whole family. He prefers to roughhouse and is getting to know the boundaries. He needs time and patience to learn how to chill out and enjoy some quiet time with his favorite people. Younger children can be a bit too active and unpredictable, so he would do best in a home with children who are 10 and over.

Midnight's favorite thing to do is laying in his bed, basking in the sun, and looking out the windows at the world going by. He is a very sweet dog, but he just needs a home that fully understands him and with the right training he will be an excellent pet! Just look at his adorably-goofy smile! This little guy just needs the love, patience, and training to become the best family dog.

Midnight is UTD on shots, is neutered, and is ready to find the right fit for his forever family.
