Kiera came to us all the way from Kosovo, and took the 16 hour plane ride here though another organization to find her loving forever home. Initially she was very timid - tail between her legs, unsure about what was happening. Everything is new for Kiera and dogs like her - the elevator, stairs(!), the inside of an apartment, the leash etc. Her foster, who has her own dog, was so patient and took her out often with her dog as an example for Kiera to follow, and she is learning new things every day. Foster has onsite dog run in her apt., and Kiera loves EVERY SINGLE dog in her building - she makes doggy friends wherever she goes. At about 10 months and about 30 lbs., we don't think she is going to get much bigger.
Shy and a bit skittish at first, she warms up quickly with people and soon is your new best friend! She's now fine on a leash and easily walks beside you. Kiera doesn't bark too much - just when people come to the door, and when playing with other dogs. She will be hesitant and shy at first, then warms up beautifully. She has ZERO prey drive, and is very loyal to you and will stay by you - she's a great dog for hikers and joggers!
She is learning commands (in English) easily - she is very smart and very eager to please. She knows Wait, No, and Sit already!! She loves marrow and rawhide bones, but is not so into toys. She was a street dog and never had a toy before...
She's an amazing dog in that when she loves and trusts you, she accepts anything. She exhibits NO food, people or toy aggression at all. You can kiss her on the mouth, carry her like a baby, she doesn't care, as long as you're with her. She loves to lay on you like a big cat, and has a very mellow personality in the house and is very chill. She LOVES to be snuggled like a baby, and wants to be your baby, and will follow you around. She does whines in crate initially, but we think it's because she is separated from fosters' other dog.
Kiera will do well with a family with kids, or a young active couple. Another friendly dog is a big plus. She needs a new home where her people have TIME for her more than anything else. She is still learning about this new world and needs patience and love - she doesn't always know when she is doing something wrong yet. The great part is, she is anxious to please, highly intelligent and easy to train. And she will adore you forever....
