Dahlia came from an AL shelter were she was kept outside the entire time. She has not had a lot of exposure to being inside a house, so understandably she was very unsure initially in the fosters' house, but not at all destructive. She is super sweet girl, very eager to please and very smart - she has learned SO much in the last few weeks, and we see her learning every day. Foster (who has 7 dogs and been fostering forever) feels she is "The perfect dog" once her personality comes through, and we're seeing more and more socialization every day!!

Dahlia was timid and shy the first few days, but is learning that she is safe now. (When she feels afraid, she is NEVER aggressive, just shy.) She LOVES her crate and sees it as her safe, happy place, so she will need to continue to have a "safety zone". She sleeps there at night beautifully, and sometimes FILLS it with toys and plays in there. She does love toys and foster has plenty, especially squeaky toys and pull ropes.

She initially was unfamiliar with a leash, but her foster has worked with her and she’s doing very well. When the doorbell rings and company comes, she'll initially run to the crate and watch (we don't think she knows what the doorbell means.) She's learned so much from the other dogs, and when she sees they are happy, she will come over for some affection when they show it is ok. She's a puppy and does jump a bit to give kisses, which is why she's better with bigger children that wouldn't get knocked down by accident.

Dahlia gets along beautifully with her other dogs, She has seen cats, and did NOT react to them as prey, but should be tested - she looked and then ignored them. She follows foster around the house when she is home and loves to get pets and cuddles, and give kisses. She's happy just to be where you are, but is not a clingy dog. In the evenings, she's in the room with a pile of toys on the bed. She'll come by for pets and some love, and when you've had enough she is happy to go back to her toys. She does know some commands and is literally learning new ones each day. She knows Enough, Quiet, Out and Go. (Dahlia is a quiet girl generally, but fosters other dogs are not ;))and is learning Sit and Down.

Dahlia will be close to the perfect dog, once she is acclimated. She could be a wonderful companion dog for seniors, since she is very calm and quiet. (We are guessing she will be 35-40 lbs max, but who knows?!). Dahlia would benefit from formal puppy once she has accepted the leash. She needs a home with a fenced in yard for now and recommend another dog. She gets her confidence from watching how the other dogs behave, and she's good in a pack. She doesn't need a quiet home (remember foster has 7 dogs!), but does need to decompress and learn. Someone with patience and time to give her attention is all she needs.
