Meet Asher! Asher found himself in a shelter in AL, and this gentle soul needed a second chance. We brought him here to NJ for a better shot at a new life!
Asher is Mr. Chill - he's a sweetheart and a gentleman - friendly, mellow and EASY. He's completely housebroken, doesn't bark, doesn't get overly excited and crazy, and is a wonderful companion. He doesn't play much with toys, but has a real passion for food and very food motivated. He knows basic commands like Sit and Paw, but offer him food and he'll probably recite the Pledge of Allegiance ;)
Please note, for reasons we cannot explain, Asher has no front teeth, other than a few back molars. We don't know why, but it hasn't affected his appetite one bit, and no special food is required - foster feeds him straight from the can a few times per day. Foster gates him when no one is home, but Asher has never been destructive or shown any aggression at all.
Asher is indifferent to dogs when he goes on his walks, so seems to be neutral there, but if a squirrel goes by, it's a whole different story! He is reactive to prey, and will lunge when he sees a critter when out and about. For this reason he needs someone with some strength in his forever home, until he can be leash trained. He should also be tested with cats, as he may see them as prey as well. After walks, he comes home and flops on the bed, back to his mellow self. He's not much of a barker, so an apartment or condo is fine for him.
When people come over, he will come and sniff, but if your happy, he's happy - he's not a wary guy and receptive to new people. He lets foster hug him, and is affectionate. He loves his bed (it is his home base) but also will sit on the couch with you. He tends to check things out in the house, visit with his peeps and goes back to home base. He is not arthritic and can do stairs and walk just fine.
Asher will do well just about anywhere, but would not be a great jogging or hiking buddy. He's not that active, but likes to explore, roll in the grass, and take in the moment. As noted above, he does need someone with some strength to walk him, but generally he's a mellow guy who is easy and gentle.
