Meet Thelma... found running in the streets, no chip, without a family to call her own. She has settled into her foster home, and she is ready to be shared with the world to find a forever home!
Thelma is dog-cat-kid-friendly girl that is rescue endorsed as a non-aggressive lap dog that loves to cuddle! She is currently in training for housebreaking and is learning to relieve herself outdoors in foster. She does not enjoy the crate and being confined to small spaces, so further training will be needed to help her learn to relax if crating is a priority in an adopters home. She is also still learning how to walk on leash and will need time and patience to feel confident.
When meeting someone new, Thelma is cautious and will let you know it with a few barks. She is learning to feel what a reliable human is like while in foster, and she needs just a little more time to trust that anyone new is on her side. It is important to note that she has quickly learned to trust her foster (only 5 days) and will learn to love someone new when given the opportunity. Thelma adores being close to her foster for affection and snuggle time whenever she gets the chance - a clear sign that trust can be earned quickly as long as she knows you will be there for her reliably. Thelma is all about quality time with her human companions, so if you are doing chores about the house, she will loyally follow you around to supervise and remind you to relax with her (aka give her the affection she needs to feel secure).
Thelma is not yet spayed, but is UTD on vaccinations. The good news is that because we are a licensed, registered 501(c)3 rescue with the state of NJ, she is eligible to be spayed for just $20 with proof of adoption (adoption contract) through the NJ Low Cost Spay/Neuter Grant Program. It's super-easy, just present our contract at a participating vet and make the spay appt! Our local vet participates, and you may just find yours does too!
