I've found my furever family!

Hi! My Name Is Smokey

We're happy to tell you that Smokey has a new furever home.
Please visit our Available Dogs Page to see the pups currently available.

Meet sweet little Smokey! Smokey and his siblings came to us malnourished, scared, and unsocialized. The original owner is in the hospital and, sadly, won't be coming home. Smokey is now learning confidence and how to trust his human companions. His foster reports that he was shaking and pacing the first day they had him, but has quickly developed a bond to his foster and will follow them around while they are doing things around the house.

At night, Smokey is doing well in his crate at night in the fosters’  bedroom. During the day it’s moved to the kitchen and if his foster is getting dinner ready, he loves to relax in his crate with the door open. He is fed his meals in his crate as well - puppy chow with plain chicken and rice, ½ cup 3x daily.  He has been crated for short periods, but barks the entire time when checking him on the camera. This is a display of some separation anxiety, which with time will hopefully fade. Smokey is 75-80 % housebroken. He goes about 8 hours at night, so in the mornings his foster will pick him up out of the crate and take him right out. He normally does both. He goes every few hours during the day. He will sometimes pace which is a sign he has to go out. On leash, Smokey  is learning to walk confidently  and is doing well. He is still nervous outside and stays very close while walking. Smokey just needs a little extra time getting used to sounds and sights in his world. His foster reports that they walk him with both a leash on harness and a slip lead.

He has only played a few times with toys. Still learning about toys. We continue to try and engage him. He will watch my dogs play and go over to smell the toys. With new people, Smokey tends to be cautious, but approachable. He’ll just need a little extra time to warm up. Once he gets used to you, he is a snuggler and loves to be close. His tail never stops wagging when he sees you, and he makes the cutest sounds while snuggling you.

Smokey is not yet neutered, but is in the process of receiving his puppy vaccinations and getting healthy and strong.

A note from his foster: “We are still getting to know Smokey and hopefully will continue to see his personality shine through. He was very scared, thin, and itchy when he arrived so it took some time for him to settle. He is a sweet boy that just wants to be close to you.”
