We pulled Rusty from the Bloomfield (NJ) Animal Shelter - his owner died, and he had nowhere to go. Rusty is out of the shelter and in foster care. At 11, Rusty is starting over and needs a loving family who care for him in his senior years.
He is just adorable - cute as cute can be, and the gentlest of souls. His sweet personality is now coming out after about a week with his foster. When he first arrived he was scared and pacing (SO much change in so little time), but now he has acclimated, gotten his bearings and has settled in beautifully. He follows foster around when she is doing chores, and loves to hang on their front porch - foster has puts out a heater in the cold and he can sit for hours watching the world go by. He loves to take walks, and doesn't pull at all. He is fine on the stairs and has good mobility. In the evenings, he loves to sit on the couch with his head in fosters' lap, now that he figured out how to jump up on the couch.
Foster has 3 other dogs, with whom he gets along well. He sleeps with her little dog on their bed, and buddies up easily. He would be great in a home with another docile dog, he loves the company and to have a pal. He's a little escape artist though, and can get around the baby gates to get closer to you! (Not mischievous, just wants to be with you!) Rusty has no aggression in any way. He is a happy and healthy boy, but is a senior and is hearing impaired - we are not sure of the extent at this point, but it has little impact on his day to day.
To know him is to love him, and Rusty's foster would adopt him in a minute, but has too many dogs now, and wouldn't be able to foster anymore if she took him. We know there is a perfect home for him out there - someone who is home a lot and can devote time to Rusty. He's such an easy dog, he would be great with a less experienced pet parent, or a senior who likes to walk and have a companion at home. A family with another docile dog would be perfect!
