Nellie and her brother Nathan were rescued from a high-kill shelter in Alabama. We transported them north for some TLC and a chance at a forever home. <p>
Nellie is a fun, playful 35 lb. hound mix who is smart, fun and sweet as can be. She loves her toys, and is happy to share them with the fosters' other dog. She has no aggression and loves to play with other agreeable dogs. She is a bit timid when she first meets strangers, and warms up if she approaches them on her own terms (she has a lack of initial trust, and probably for good reason in her past.) Now that she's in a safe environment we think this will fade. She's completely housebroken and has learned to ring the bell when she needs to go out! She's a smarty pants, and knows cues like lay down, wait, sit and drop it. She has also learned to sit at the front door until given permission to go out which is helpful because she loves to chase leaves and deer. She will also sit when mom has the food bowl - she has to wait until bowl is put down to approach. She's such a lady!! <p>
Her leash training is a work in progress - she pulls and is learning that's not OK. Nellie will do best with a fenced in yard. She sometimes gets zoomies, and does laps and laps. Then, like most puppies, she crashes. She's really funny to listen to at night - sometimes she sleeps upside-down, and you can catch a little doggie snore that really is adorable... <p>
Nellie is a sweetie and likes to snuggle with her foster during down time. At night, she is crate trained and goes into her crate with no accidents. She's a healthy girl, spayed and fully up to date on vaccinations. She's going to be a wonderful pet when she finds her forever home. <p>
